On Monday 9 September, 2024 by 11a.m., the Boundless Indigenous Writer’s Mentorship Program opened for applications. The program awards the mentorship annually to an unpublished Indigenous writer who has made substantial progress on a work of fiction or non-fiction. The 2025 Boundless Mentorship will be judged by Jeanine Leane.

If you’re having problems with producing long form works, here are five ways to increase your productivity as a writer.

How The Boundless Indigenous Writer’s Mentorship Works:

  • The program matches emerging Indigenous writers from across Australia with established Indigenous writers. This partnership provides a comprehensive, year-long mentoring experience.
  • The mentor provides 20 hours of guidance to the mentee. This includes constructive feedback on their current project and valuable insights into writing and navigating the publishing industry. Whenever feasible, an in-person meeting with the mentor is arranged.
  • Text Publishing provides editorial support to the writer as well as access to Writing NSW’s professional development resources.

Requirements for The Boundless Indigenous Writer’s Mentorship

  • A manuscript in progress
  • Submissions must be either a work of fiction (including short-story collections) or narrative non-fiction for adults, kids (middle grade) or young adults.

Note: Poetry, plays, picture books and practical non-fiction are ineligible.

Benefits

  • The successful applicant receives editorial feedback and manuscript development.

  • At the conclusion of the mentorship, Text Publishing has the exclusive first right to consider the winning manuscript for publication.

Deadline: Apply for the Boundless Indigenous Writer’s Mentorship before 25 November, 2024

The Boundless Indigenous Writer’s Mentorship Program aims to intensively train a writer. Also, to walk them through their creative process. And ultimately, to pave a path that introduces them into the publishing industry. Visit their website for further information.
