Calling All Prose Writers of African and Caribbean Descent to apply for the CANEX BOOK FACTORY CREATIVE WRITING  WORKSHOP

In collaboration with James and Grace Adichie Foundation, owned by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Narrative Landscape, CANEX will host a book factory’s creative writing workshop in Ghana.

 

About CANEX

The Creative and Cultural Industries (CCIs) serve as drivers of both economic growth and cultural engagement. Primarily, they generate income through the trade and commercialization of intellectual property rights. While creating new jobs in higher occupational skills, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.

This workshop is dedicated to the art of prose and aims to support and develop literary talent within Africa and the Caribbean.

 

CANEX Workshop

Workshop Overview

  • The Workshop will feature a ten-day residential program, running from 12-22 August 2024.
  • Additionally, an extra session will take place from 15-30 June 2024. This provides more opportunities for participants to grow their creative writing skills.

Workshop Details:

Hosted in a supportive and collaborative environment, the workshop provides a unique opportunity to learn from experienced writers and industry professionals such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Eligibility for The spoken Word Contest

First and foremost, any applicant must be a Nigerian living in Nigeria to be eligible. This competition is open to both teens and adults. Since it is an online contest, your location within Nigeria does not matter.

How to Register

To participate, follow these steps:

1. Video Creation: Make a video of yourself reciting an original poem. It doesn’t have to be a new poem; it can be one you’ve written or recited before. The key is that it must be your own original work.
2. Theme: Your poem can be about any theme. Make sure you know what inspired your poem, as you’ll need to provide this information during registration.
4. Video Length: While your video can be of any length, the preferred maximum is 3 minutes.
5. Upload and Register: After creating your video, return to the contest page and click on the “Upload your Video to Register” button. Upload your video to register for the contest.
6. Confirmation: Once registered, you will immediately receive a confirmation voting link.
7. Registration Deadline: Registration ends on June 9th, 2024, but it may close earlier if 50 contestants register before then. As of now, 23 contestants have registered, so act quickly to secure your spot.
8. Voting: Voting starts on June 10th, 2024. Each vote costs N50, and anyone can vote for you multiple times.

The Leon Levy Center for Biography 2024 offers four resident fellowships at the Graduate Center for the academic year beginning each September. 

Fellows devote their time to their projects and participate in monthly seminars.   • Writers who have not yet published a biography or received fellowships for the writing of a biography
  • Also, publisge and accomplished writers who are undertaking their first biography are encouraged to submit
  • Applications are particularly welcome from CUNY faculty. More so, fellows may not teach or partake in other full-time employment during their academic year-in-residence. The Leon Levy Center for Biography does not award fellowships for;

  • Brilliant Flash Fiction publishes quarterly, with releases scheduled for the last day of January, March, June, and September.

The Marguerite and Lamar Smith Fellowship for Writers is now open!

The fellowship aims to afford writers uninterrupted time to focus on their work at an apartment in Carson McCuller’s childhood home in Columbus, Georgia, free from the distractions of daily life and other responsibilities.

The Marguerite and Lamar Smith Fellowship for Writers

The Marguerite and Lamar Fellowship for Writers is offered during fall semester. The fellowship begins the first of September and ends the first of December. During this time, the writing fellow will reside in a spacious private apartment inside Carson McCullers’s childhood home. The Smith-McCullers House.

The fellow is provided with a stipend of $5,000 to cover costs of transportation, food and other incidentals. Fellowship recipients are encouraged to take an active role in the community and to meet informally with students and local residents interested in writing.

  • Send in your latest curriculum vitae, making sure to include fellowships, scholarships, prizes, or other honors you have received;
  • A writing sample of no more than 20 pages;
  • Also, they require at least two letters of recommendation.
  • All applications must be completed on or before April 1, 2024
  • All applications will be acknowledged, and finalists will be chosen and scheduled for telephone interviews with the selection committee by May 15.

The Arts Writers Grant supports both emerging and established writers who focus on contemporary visual art.

 

Additionally, these grants support projects that address both general and specialized art audiences, from short reviews for magazines and newspapers to in-depth scholarly studies.

Furthermore, the grant embraces art writing that engages criticism through interdisciplinary methods or experiments with literary styles.It’s important to note that writers can apply as long as they meet the eligibility and publishing requirements.

Submission Guidelines

  • Before applying, it’s highly recommended to thoroughly read through the Application Guide.
  • Each project type has specific eligibility requirements and word count limits for writing samples.
  • It is essential to remember that applicants can only apply for one project per grant cycle and must choose between Article, Book, or Short-Form Writing. Moreover, application questions play a crucial role; the eloquence and coherence of answers are considered in the evaluation process.

Eligibility

  • The application opens on April 10 and closes on May 15 for the current grant cycle. Eligible arts writers must be individuals who focus on contemporary visual art.
  • These writers can be art historians, artists, critics, curators, journalists, or writers who are strongly engaged with contemporary visual arts.
  •  Furthermore, applicants must be either a US citizen, permanent resident, or holder of an O-1 visa.There’s also a minimum age requirement of twenty-five years old.
  • Additionally, applicants must be published authors, with specific publication requirements varying for each project type.
  • Finally, applicants cannot be current employees, consultants, board members, or funders of Creative Capital or the Andy Warhol Foundation.

 

Rewards

 

  • Grants range from $15,000 to $50,000 are available across three categories: articles, books, and short-form writing.

Eligibility for the Hope Prize 2024

The Prize welcomes writers from all walks of life, regardless of background or experience. Here are the key eligibility criteria:
